Bangladesh news: BNP Chairman Tariq Rahman is all set to take oath as the next Prime Minister following the historic victory of Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) in the Bangladesh elections. The swearing-in ceremony will be held on February 17 at the South Plaza of the National Parliament House. 13 countries have been invited for Rahman’s swearing-in ceremony, which also includes India. Bangladesh has invited Prime Minister Narendra Modi for the ceremony.
Parliamentary elections were held in Bangladesh on 12 February following the fall of the Sheikh Hasina-led Awami League government, in which the BNP won a landslide victory. The BNP alliance led by Tariq Rehman has secured a two-thirds majority by winning 212 out of 299 seats in the Parliament. At the same time, Jamaat-e-Islami (JeI) alliance has emerged as the second largest faction with 77 seats.
Preparations for the program in full swing
After the spectacular victory in the elections, preparations for the swearing-in ceremony of the new government in Bangladesh have intensified. Rahman will take oath along with his cabinet on February 17. There is an atmosphere of enthusiasm among his supporters. Preparations are underway to make the program grand. Many foreign guests are also likely to attend the swearing-in ceremony. Strict security arrangements have been made for this.
The 13 countries to which invitations have been sent for the swearing-in ceremony include India, China, Saudi Arabia, Pakistan, Turkey, UAE, Qatar, Malaysia, Brunei, Sri Lanka, Nepal, Maldives and Bhutan.
Why are the chances of PM Modi going to Bangladesh less?
Bangladesh has invited India for the ceremony, but will Prime Minister Narendra Modi go to Dhaka? This is a big question. The chances of PM Modi going to Bangladesh for the swearing-in ceremony seem unlikely. This is because French President Emmanuel Macron is also coming on his three-day visit to India on the same day. Macron will be in India from 17th to 19th and many programs are already scheduled during this period.
A bilateral meeting between PM Modi and President Macron is scheduled in Mumbai on 17th February itself. The French President is coming to participate in the AI Impact Summit during his visit to India. However, it is being said that a senior leader may be sent to the ceremony from India’s side.
Relations between India and Bangladesh have been tense for some time. However, now with the formation of the new government, it is expected to improve. Earlier, PM Modi had congratulated Tariq Rehman on BNP’s victory in Bangladesh elections. After this, both the leaders also talked on phone.
