India-US News: US President Donald Trump announced a historic trade agreement with India. Besides, the tariff imposed on India has also been reduced to 18%. In such a situation, now a big question is arising whether Trump has also removed the additional 25% tariff imposed on India for buying Russian oil? The White House has made its stand clear on this.
Will the 25% extra tariff imposed on India be removed?
A White House official has confirmed to ANI that Washington will also remove the additional 25 percent tariff imposed on Indian imports due to New Delhi’s purchases of Russian oil. The official also said that India will have to stop the purchase of oil from Russia “instead of reducing it completely.”
When ANI asked whether tariffs on Indian imports would be removed in exchange for reducing Russian oil purchases. “Yes, although the agreement is that India will not just reduce Russian oil purchases, but will stop it altogether,” the official said.
Trump announced to reduce tariffs
In fact, on Monday (February 2), there was a phone conversation between US President Donald Trump and Prime Minister Narendra Modi. After this, Trump announced to reduce the tariff imposed on India.
Trump described the phone conversation with PM Modi as a matter of great honor. He called Modi his very good friend and a powerful and respected leader of India. Donald Trump said that earlier an additional tariff of 25% was imposed on Indian goods, but now it will be reduced to 18%. This exemption has come into effect immediately.
India will no longer buy oil from Russia – Trump’s claim
Trump also claimed during this time that PM Modi agreed that India will no longer buy oil from Russia. Instead, India will buy more oil from the US and possibly also from Venezuela. Trump believes that this will help stop the ongoing war in Ukraine, because Russia will get less money and thousands of people are dying there every week.
