‘दावोस में जो कहा, उसी पर कायम हूं…’, ‘बोर्ड ऑफ पीस’ का न्योता ‘ठुकराने’ के बाद अब कनाडाई PM ने ट्रंप को फोन पर सुनाया

Mark Carney: Talks took place between Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney and President Donald Trump amid increasing trade tensions with America. Carney made it clear to Trump that he stood by his statement given in Davos.

President Trump had a long conversation with Canadian PM Mark Carney. After this conversation, Carney said in a media interaction, ‘President Trump called me yesterday, we talked about many topics like Ukraine, Venezuela, Arctic security and the trade deal between Canada and China. I discussed my country’s strategy with Trump, the free trade pact with China and CUSMA (Canada-US-Mexico Free Trade Agreement). We also talked about what Canada is doing well.

What I said in Davos, that’s what I meant – Carney

He further said, ‘I told President Trump that what I said in Davos, I meant it. Canada is deciding its strategy in response to changes in America’s trade policy. We are ready to respond positively to that.

Treasury Secretary Besant had made this claim

US Treasury Secretary Scott Besant had told in a recent interview on Fox News that Carney was trying to retract his statement made in Davos during the phone conversation with Trump. However, now Carney has rejected Besant’s statement.

Canada-America relations sour

Earlier, Donald Trump withdrew the invitation given to Canada to join his constituted ‘Board of Peace’. His decision came amid recent diplomatic tensions between the two neighboring countries of North America. Trump had given this information by posting on the social media platform Truth Social. However, he did not give any concrete reason behind his decision.

Carney’s Davos statement increases bitterness

Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney, while addressing the World Economic Forum in Davos on Wednesday, had said, ‘The superpowers have now started using trade as a weapon. “Tariffs are being exploited as a weapon of pressure, to coerce the financial system, and to exploit supply chain vulnerabilities.”

Mark Carney had also said, ‘Middle powers should work together because if you are not together at the table, you will be seen on the menu.’
