Prolay was arrested in December

According to the information, Prolay Chaki breathed his last on Sunday, January 11 at Rajshahi Medical College Hospital. He was the cultural secretary in the Pabna district unit of Awami League. According to reports, the police arrested him on 16 December.

Prolay Chaki was arrested by the police from his house in Dilalpur area of ​​Pabna district in western Bangladesh. His arrest was linked to a blast case, which is said to be related to the 2024 student movement. Later this turned into the July Uprising and after that movement Sheikh Hasina had to leave the post of Prime Minister. Praloy’s son says that there was no concrete case registered against him at the time of his arrest.

Jail administration said- this is natural death

The jail administration has described Prolay Chaki’s death as a normal death. Pabna Jail Superintendent Mohammad Umar Farooq said that Prolay was suffering from several diseases. He had diabetes and heart disease. He suffered a heart attack in jail on Friday, after which he was taken to Pabna General Hospital. When his condition started deteriorating, he was taken to Rajshahi Medical College Hospital. He died at around 9 pm.

At the same time, Prolay’s family has rejected these claims of the jail administration. His son says that his father was kept in jail without a solid case. His health continued to deteriorate in jail, about which no official information was given to his family. They got the news of his reaching the hospital from others, but by then it was too late.

Prolay Chaki was a well-known singer, composer and Awami League leader of Bangladesh. He also served as the secretary of the Pabna-based Sri Sri Ram Krishna Shebashram and was a key organizer of the Awami League in northern Bangladesh. He continued to unite people and promote secular ideology through music and cultural programs for decades.
