Russia-Ukraine war: An important meeting took place between US President Donald Trump and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky on Sunday, December 28. After this, expectations have increased regarding the end of the Russia and Ukraine war. Trump says peace deal to end war is “very close.” He claimed to have reached consensus on about 95 percent of the issues. The US President said that one or two major issues are still to be resolved. Among these, the future of the eastern Donbass region is most important.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky is currently in America. He held a meeting with US President Donald Trump in Mar-a-Lago, Florida. Before meeting Zelensky, Trump also spoke on the phone with Russian President Vladimir Putin. He gave this information through a post on Truth.

Putin is serious about peace this time – Trump

Before the meeting with Zelensky, the US President expressed hopes for an early end to the Russia-Ukraine war. He said that President Vladimir Putin is serious about peace this time. I think it’s both. They have to make a deal. A lot of people died and both presidents want to make a deal.

Trump further said that we are in the final stages of negotiations. We will see. Otherwise, it will last a very long time. Either it will end, or it will go on for a very long time, and millions more people will die and no one wants that to happen.

‘We have become very close…’

At the same time, while talking to journalists after meeting with Ukrainian President Zelensky, Trump said that our meeting was very wonderful. We discussed many issues. As you know, I had a very good conversation with President Putin on the phone for more than two hours. We discussed many points. I think we’re getting pretty close, maybe too close. The President and I just spoke with European leaders. We have made great progress toward ending what is perhaps the deadliest war since World War II.

Trump admitted – many complex issues still unresolved

During this, the US President admitted that some ‘complex’ issues are still unresolved. He described one of these issues as particularly sensitive and linked it to the territory of eastern Ukraine. When asked about the “most complex issues” still unresolved, Trump said, “Land. Some of that land has been taken away…it would be better to get a deal done now.” He also acknowledged that the future of the eastern Donbass region, which Russia has demanded Ukraine surrender, remains a major issue.

90 percent agreement on 20-point peace plan- Zelensky

At the same time, after the meeting, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said that all major aspects of a possible peace agreement were discussed in the talks with Trump. He said that a great deal of agreement has already been reached between the two sides on many fronts. 90 percent of the issues have been agreed upon on the 20-point peace plan.
