Donald Trump on PM Modi: US President Donald Trump described Prime Minister Narendra Modi as his good friend during the World Economic Forum (WEF) in Davos. He has given positive indications on India-US trade deal.
Donald Trump expressed deep respect for Prime Minister Modi and considered him his good friend, saying, “I respect the Prime Minister very much. He is a wonderful person and my friend. We are going to make a good deal with India.”
This statement has come at a time when America has imposed heavy tariffs on India, up to 50% in some areas, which are considered to be the highest in the world. An additional 25 percent tariff has been imposed on India’s oil purchases from Russia. Discussions regarding trade have been going on between the two countries for a long time, but no final agreement has been reached yet. Trump’s statement has raised hopes that a strong trade agreement can soon be reached between the two countries.
The deep friendship between Trump and Modi on a personal level is already known. Trump has earlier also addressed Modi as his very good friend. US Ambassador Sergio Gore had also recently described this friendship as genuine and said that Trump remembers the moments spent with Modi.
This statement can inject new energy into India-US relations, especially in areas like trade, technology, defense and energy. If the trade deal between the two countries is successful, both economies will benefit.
