PM Narendra Modi wrote in his letter, ‘I am deeply saddened to hear about the demise of your mother and former Prime Minister and Bangladesh Nationalist Party chief Begum Khaleda Zia. My deepest condolences are with you on this personal loss. may his soul rest in peace.
I had the opportunity to meet and discuss with Begum Sahiba in Dhaka in June 2015. She was a unique leader whose tenacity and conviction made her the first woman Prime Minister of Bangladesh. He made significant contributions to the development of Bangladesh and strengthening India-Bangladesh relations.

The relationship between Bangladesh will be further strengthened under your leadership.

While writing a letter to Tariq Rehman, the Prime Minister wrote in the letter, ‘His demise has left an irreparable void, but his vision and legacy will always remain. I am confident that under your able leadership the Bangladesh Nationalist Party will carry forward its ideals and further strengthen the partnership between India and Bangladesh.

Khaleda Zia was ill for a long time
