New Delhi: Dipu Chandra Das, a 27-year-old Hindu youth, was beaten to death by a mob on alleged blasphemy charges. A few days after this incident, another incident of attack on a Hindu person has come to light from Bangladesh. A mob allegedly attacked Hindu rickshaw puller Govind Biswas in Jhenaidah district of Khulna division on Friday, local officials reported.
Seeing the red sacred thread on the wrist of the victim, which is usually worn by Hindus, a mob gathered and attacked him. According to eyewitnesses, Biswas was also rumored to be associated with India’s intelligence agency Research and Analysis Wing (RAW), due to which he was attacked and suffered neck and chest injuries and was handed over to the police.
Man seen crying in viral video
According to the viral video, the victim, Biswas, can be seen crying for help while being detained, and demanded to be released, saying that he is a rickshaw puller. He was later detained at Jhenaidah Sadar Police Station.
In another video filmed inside the police station, an unidentified voice claims that Biswas’s mobile phone showed several WhatsApp transactions involving the Reserve Bank of India and that he had received a call from a person in India.
Responding to these claims, Biswas reportedly told the police that the caller, identified as Akash, was known to him personally.
The incident comes amid growing concern over attacks on minorities in Bangladesh following the murder of Dipu Chandra Das in Mymensingh, which led to reports of protests and vandalism in several areas. Following Dipu’s brutal murder, External Affairs Ministry spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal said, “We have urged that the culprits behind the brutal murder of Das be brought to justice.”
Earlier today, India had rejected Bangladesh media reports about alleged demonstrations outside the Bangladesh High Commission in New Delhi following the killing of Dipu Chandra Das in Mymensingh, Bangladesh.
