Amidst the ongoing violence in Bangladesh, a bomb making factory has been exposed inside a madrasa in the capital Dhaka. A major militant operation was revealed in South Keraniganj area of Dhaka when a loud explosion was heard from a madrassa. The blast revealed a secret bomb making factory hidden inside the madrassa. Due to this, questions are once again being raised regarding the safety of the people.
During the investigation, a huge quantity of chemicals and bomb making materials were also recovered during the raid on Unmul Quran International Madrasa in Hasnabad area of Keraniganj. Investigating officials believe the site was being used to prepare materials for suicide attacks, making it one of the deadliest militant searches in recent years.
This item was recovered from the bomb factory in Madrasa
At a press briefing held at the South Keraniganj Police Station on Saturday, December 27, Dhaka District Superintendent of Police Mohammad Mizanur Rahman confirmed that about 400 liters of liquid chemicals, electronic monitoring equipment and several explosive materials were recovered from the site. Immediately after the blast, the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) Crime Scene Unit and Anti-Terrorism Unit (ATU) were dispatched to secure the site and investigate.
Case related to suicide bombing
Superintendent of Police (SP) Mizanur Rahman said, the scale with which the items were recovered clearly shows that preparations were being made for a major incident of sabotage. This was not a sudden incident or a small operation. According to police sources, the madrassa was being used to cover the setup for making explosives. Investigators believe the chemicals were used to create a highly volatile explosive compound often associated with suicide bombings.
The blast occurred around 11:00 am on Friday, 26 December, causing damage to the madrasa building. Cracks occurred in the ceiling and load-bearing beams, and at least two rooms were severely damaged. Five people, including madrasa director Sheikh Al Amin, also known as Rajib (32), his wife Asiya Begum (28), their two young sons and neighbor Humayun Kabir were injured in the incident.
Local people said that if students were present in the madrasa at that time, the situation could have been even worse. The madrasa was empty due to weekly holiday. Officials say that due to this reason large scale damage was avoided. Investigating agencies said that this was a deliberate attempt to use religious institutions as shields.
