Imran Khan and Bushra Bibi sentenced to 17 years
Imran is linked to the purchase at a throwaway price of an expensive Bulgari jewelery set gifted by the Saudi Crown Prince during an official visit. This decision was given by Special Judge Central Shahrukh Arjumand during the hearing held in Rawalpindi’s Adiala Jail, where Imran is imprisoned. A fine of Pakistani rupees 16.4 million has also been imposed on both of them.
The court sentenced Imran Khan to 10 years rigorous imprisonment under Section 409 (criminal breach of trust) and Section 34 (common intention) of the Pakistan Penal Code and 7 years under Section 5(2) of the Prevention of Corruption Act. Bushra Bibi has also been given similar punishment under the same provisions. Both sentences will run concurrently, making the total sentence 17 years.
Apart from this, the court has also imposed a fine of Pakistani rupees 16.4 million on both of them. According to Pakistani law, if the fine is not paid, one will have to face additional imprisonment. This case pertains to an expensive Bulgari jewelery set given by the Saudi Crown Prince in 2021, which was worth around Rs 80 million. It is alleged that Imran Khan kept it by paying only Rs 2.9 million, which is a violation of the state’s Toshakhana rules.
