Washington DC: Republican Senator Lindsey Graham has given a strong warning to Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei. He said US President Donald Trump would kill him and other regime leaders if they continue to harm their people amid protests that are spreading across several provinces in Iran due to economic difficulties, inflation and people’s anger over government policies.

In an interview with American media, Graham expressed solidarity with protesters in Iran who took to the streets to show their anger against the current government.

He warned the Ayatollah that if he continued to ‘kill and terrorize’ the people of the Islamic Republic, the US would intervene in the region, which would result in his death.

‘We are with you tonight’

The Republican senator told US media, “People of Iran, we are with you tonight. We are with you to take back your country from the Ayatollah, who kills you and terrorizes the world. We pray for you. We support you. Donald J. Trump is not Barack Obama. He is with you.”

He added, “The Ayatollah needs to understand, if you continue to kill your people who are demanding a better life, Donald J. Trump will kill you. The Ayatollah and his goons: If you continue to kill your people by disobeying President Trump, you will be found dead.”

His comments come amid heightened tensions after Trump threatened to intervene in protests in Iran, saying Washington was fully prepared to respond if the Islamic Republic’s authorities use violence against peaceful protesters.

What did Trump say?

In a post on Truth Social, Trump said, “If Iran shoots at peaceful protesters and kills them violently, which is their habit, the United States will come to their aid. We are fully prepared. Thank you for bringing attention to this matter!”

This comes as people in Iran continue to protest against rising prices and economic hardships, with people taking to the streets in several provinces across Iran, and some protests turning into violent clashes with security forces. According to reports, protesters clashed with police, threw stones at officers and set vehicles on fire.
