US President Donald Trump has spoken to Prime Minister Narendra Modi over phone, which has again drawn attention to the delicate state of US-India relations over tariffs. US Ambassador to India Sergio Gore gave this information in a post on X, which has increased expectations of a possible announcement on a trade deal. In a post on X, Gore said, “President Trump just spoke with Prime Minister Modi. Stay tuned…”
President Trump and PM Modi have been making diplomatic efforts to strengthen bilateral ties, with their recent talks focusing on trade and energy cooperation. America has imposed tariffs on India’s exports, the reason for which is said to be India buying oil from Russia. In response, India has sought relief from these punitive measures, and stressed the need for mutually beneficial trade agreements.
Details of the call have not been disclosed yet
Although details of the call were not disclosed, the conversation indicates an effort by both leaders to keep diplomatic channels open and prevent the economic conflict from spilling over into cooperation on defence, technology and the Indo-Pacific.
Had shared the picture of India Gate
Earlier, US President Donald Trump on Monday shared a picture of New Delhi’s India Gate on his social media platform Truth Social and praised this monument, calling it a “beautiful Victory Arch”.
“India’s beautiful Victory Arch will be our greatest,” Trump wrote along with the photo.
The post comes as Trump is pushing ahead with an ambitious plan to build a massive new Triumph Arch in Washington DC to commemorate the 250th anniversary of American independence.
According to an American media report, Trump has become involved with the idea of building a 250-foot high building on the banks of the Potomac River. The proposed monument, tentatively named Independence Arch, would be much larger than many of the capital’s most recognizable landmarks.
