कौन हैं नोबेल पुरस्कार विजेता Narges Mohammadi? जिन्हें ईरान में दी गई 7 साल जेल की सजा तो दुनिया भर के मानवाधिकार संगठनों ने जताया विरोध

Narges Mohammadi: Iranian human rights activist and Nobel Peace Prize winner Nargis Mohammadi has been in jail for many years. Now he has been sentenced to 7 more years. According to her lawyer, Nargis was convicted in cases of conspiring against the country and spreading propaganda. Along with the sentence, he has also been imposed with two years of internal exile and a travel ban. This decision of Iran has been opposed by human rights all over the world.

Nargis’s lawyers say the decision is politically motivated and another example of Iran suppressing dissenting voices.

Nargis Mohammadi was arrested in December 2025 when she attended a memorial service for Khosrow Alikordi, a human rights lawyer, in the city of Mashhad. Here they raised slogans and demonstrated demanding justice. He also started a hunger strike from February 2, calling his detention illegal, due to which his health deteriorated rapidly.

Mohammadi’s lawyer Mostafa Neeli said on the social media platform X that Mashhad’s Revolutionary Court issued the verdict on Saturday. In this, he has sentenced Nargis to six years’ imprisonment on charges of “organization and conspiracy”, and one and a half years’ imprisonment for “propaganda activities”. It also includes a two-year travel ban and two years of internal exile in the city of Khosf in South Khorasan province. Neely called it “cruel and unjust” and appealed to human rights organizations to protest.

Nargis Mohammadi, 53, is a prominent Iranian women’s rights activist, known for campaigning against women’s rights and political repression for decades. Nargis is an engineer and writer as well as the vice-chairperson of the Human Rights Defenders Center (DHRC), which was founded by Nobel laureate Shirin Ebadi.

Mohammadi was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize in 2023 after she voiced her opposition to repressive policies against women in Iran, particularly hijab laws. The award committee selected her for “her struggle for women, freedom and human rights in Iran”. His struggle has taken him behind bars many times. Her children accepted the award on her behalf, as she was in jail at the time.

Nargis could not meet her children for 10 years

Mohammadi has spent most of the last decade in jail. She has not been able to meet her twin children, who live in Paris, since 2015. Mohammadi’s lawyer said that in December 2024, he was released for three weeks for medical reasons due to his physical condition after tumor removal and bone graft.
