
Colombia Plane Crash: A small passenger plane crashed in Colombia, resulting in the tragic death of 15 people. Contact with the aircraft was lost before it crashed. 15 people died on the plane, including MP Diogenes Quintero and election candidate Carlos Salcedo. Satena Flight 8895 was en route from Cucuta to Ocaña but lost contact before landing. Later the wreckage of the aircraft was recovered from the hilly area.
Officials arrived in a rural area of Norte de Santender in north-eastern Colombia after receiving information about a plane crash. At the same time, Satena, the government airline operating the flight, said that a rescue team was sent to the spot to ascertain the condition of the passengers.
No one survived the plane crash – Transport Ministry
Giving information about the plane crash, Colombia’s Transport Ministry said, ‘There are no survivors in the plane crash.’ The plane, registration number HK4709, took off at 11:42 a.m. local time from Cucuta’s airport for Ocaña, a city surrounded by mountains. The flight was usually about 40 minutes.
The accident happened a few minutes after contact was lost.
In a statement issued by Satena, it was said, ‘The plane’s last contact with air traffic control was a few minutes after take-off. Officials did not reveal the cause of the accident, but said it would be investigated. The small plane was carrying two crew members and 13 passengers, including 36-year-old Diogenes Quintero, a member of the House of Representatives from Catatumbo, the airline said.
