New Delhi: A 22-year-old Indian student at the University of California, Berkeley, identified as Saket Srinivasaiah, has been missing since February 9. According to reports, the student was last seen near Anza Lake in Berkeley Hills.

Meanwhile, the Indian Embassy in San Francisco confirmed in a tweet on Saturday that they are coordinating with the student’s family and local police to help in the search.

The Indian Embassy in San Francisco tweeted, “The Consulate General of India in San Francisco is deeply concerned about the missing of Saket Srinivasiah, an Indian post-graduate student at UC Berkeley, resident of the state of Karnataka. The Consulate is in touch with the family and relevant local authorities to locate the student.”

Let us tell you that in an attempt to locate the 22-year-old student, Srinivasiah’s roommate, Baneet Singh, took the help of LinkedIn to help people find him.

What did the friend write on LinkedIn?

Srinivasaiah’s roommate wrote on LinkedIn, “My roommate, Saketh Srinivasaiah, has been missing since Monday the 9th, he was last seen near Lake Anza in the Berkeley Hills. If anyone I know knows people in the area who have seen him recently, please give me any information. I am working with the police department to try to find him. We are having a difficult time right now. Please give any information that can help.” Can get help.”

Who is Srinivasaiah?

Srinivasaiah, who hails from Karnataka, is an alumnus of IIT-Madras, from where he completed BTech in Chemical Engineering in 2025. He is currently enrolled at UC Berkeley, where he is pursuing a master’s degree in chemical and biomolecular engineering.

According to a report, the Berkeley Police Department described the 22-year-old boy’s height as 6 feet 1 inch and weight around 160 pounds (73 kg). Let us tell you that this is not the first case of students going missing in America. Indian students abroad often complain of discrimination, racist attacks and negligence by authorities.

In a question raised by MP Asaduddin Owaisi in the Lok Sabha about student safety abroad, the Ministry of External Affairs had stressed its efforts to keep Indian students safe.

In response to the MP’s query, the MEA wrote, “The Government attaches utmost priority to the safety of Indian students abroad and keeps a close watch on incidents of violence against them. Violent and unwanted incidents against them are immediately taken up by Indian Missions/Posts abroad with the relevant authorities of the host country to ensure that they are properly investigated and the perpetrators are brought to justice.”
