India-US news: External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar met Mark Robbio amid the historic trade agreement between India and America. Jaishankar is currently on a visit to Washington, where he met the US Secretary of State. During this, the foreign ministers of both the countries held the first meeting after the trade deal. Apart from this, he also held a meeting with US Treasury Secretary Scott Besant.

Foreign Minister S. Jaishankar is on a tour of America from February 2 to February 4. He is there to attend a ministerial meeting on critical minerals and to hold discussions with senior members of the US administration.

Both leaders welcomed the trade agreement

US State Department Principal Deputy Spokesperson Tommy Pigott issued a statement saying that Foreign Minister Jaishankar and Foreign Minister Rubio discussed formalizing cooperation on exploration, mining and processing of critical minerals. He welcomed the trade agreement between President Trump and Prime Minister Modi. At the same time, the two leaders emphasized the importance of our democracies working together to open new economic opportunities and advance our shared energy security goals.

The statement further said that Secretary Rubio and Minister Jaishankar ended their meeting by expressing their commitment to increase bilateral and multilateral cooperation through QUAD. They acknowledged that a prosperous Indo-Pacific region is vital to advancing our shared interests.

There was a wide-ranging discussion on the agenda of bilateral cooperation, regional and global issues. It was agreed to hold early meetings of various mechanisms to advance shared interests.”

On Monday (February 2), US President Donald Trump had announced this historic deal. He also announced that the tariff imposed on India is also being reduced. Trump announced reducing tariffs to 18%.
