US Flight Cancellations News: Winter Storm ‘Devin’ has disrupted the peak holiday travel season in the US. According to flight tracking website FlightAware, as of 4:04 pm on December 26, 1,802 flights were cancelled, while 22,349 were delayed. This is peak holiday season, with record numbers of Americans traveling home or visiting from elsewhere. Many airlines have waived change fees for affected passengers and are assisting with rebooking. Passengers are being advised to check flight status and keep extra time.
Due to Storm Devin, the conditions on the roads are dangerous and restrictions have been imposed on commercial vehicles at many places. At the same time, there is a possibility of the storm continuing to intensify further. The National Weather Service issued a warning this afternoon for Winter Storm Devin, which will cause hazardous travel conditions across the Great Lakes, northern Mid-Atlantic and southern New England through Saturday morning.
New York Governor warned
New York Governor Kathy Hochul said, ‘As widespread snowfall is expected to begin in New York City and surrounding areas this evening, I will declare a state of emergency to ensure that our agencies and local partners have the resources and equipment needed to respond to the storm.’
Snowfall up to 4-8 inches expected
The National Weather Service’s Storm Prediction Center said, ‘4-8 inches of snowfall is expected by late Friday night in northern areas from Upstate New York to the Tri-State area, including New York City and Long Island.’ Newark Liberty International Airport and LaGuardia Airport have posted alerts warning travelers of possible delays or cancellations. According to FlightAware, more than half of flight cancellations and delays are happening at these three airports.
